Troost-Ekong: Super Eagles Will Keep Fighting to Make Nigeria Proud

Super Eagles vice-captain William Troost-Ekong has reaffirmed the team’s determination to keep fighting for success as Nigeria continues its push for qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking after the team’s recent 4-0 victory over Benin Republic, Troost-Ekong said that although qualification is not yet secured, the players remain focused and united in their mission to restore Nigeria’s dominance in African football.

“We know how much this means to Nigerians. Every time we wear the green and white, we play for over 200 million people. We’ll keep fighting, we’ll keep improving, and we’ll make the nation proud,” the PAOK defender said.

Nigeria’s convincing win in Uyo featured a hat-trick from Victor Osimhen, while Ademola Lookman added the fourth goal. Despite the emphatic result, the Super Eagles must now navigate the playoff stage to book their spot in the tournament.

Troost-Ekong, who missed several months earlier this year due to injury, emphasized that the team’s spirit and chemistry are strong under coach Finidi George.

“We’ve been working on discipline, teamwork, and consistency. Everyone in camp knows the importance of these next matches. We owe it to ourselves and to the fans who never stopped believing in us,” he added.

The defender also called for unity among supporters, urging Nigerians to keep faith with the team as they prepare for the upcoming CAF playoff fixtures scheduled for early 2026.

With the Super Eagles aiming to make their seventh World Cup appearance, Troost-Ekong’s leadership both on and off the pitch continues to be a key factor in Nigeria’s quest to reach the global stage once again.
