Grammy-winning Afrobeats star Tems is making waves beyond her chart-topping hits. The 30-year-old singer, born Temilade Openiyi, recently launched the Leading Vibe Initiative (LVI), a game-changing mentorship program to uplift young Nigerian women in music. Held on August 8-9, 2025, in Lagos, the two-day event brought together 20 emerging female artists, songwriters, and producers for workshops, masterclasses, and networking with industry heavyweights like Sony Music’s Lola Ige and RCA Records’ Sarah Lorentzen.
Backed by Hennessy and Native Instruments, LVI provided hands-on training and access to cutting-edge music production tools. Tems, inspired by her own journey as a self-taught artist in a male-dominated industry, aims to close the gender gap—where only 22% of artists and 3% of producers globally are women. “My goal is to help talented young women redefine the industry,” Tems said, emphasizing empowerment and community.
Participants like songwriter Donatella Abu and producer FEEFEE praised the program for building confidence and connections. With plans to expand to Kenya next, Tems is sparking a movement for African women to lead, create, and thrive in music. Keep an eye on this trailblazer—she’s not just shaping sounds but also the future!
