Anambra’s Onyinyechi Basil Shines as Miss Universe Nigeria 2025

In a dazzling display of beauty, brains, and purpose, Onyinyechi Basil, representing Anambra State, was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2025 at the grand finale held on August 30, 2025, at the Balmoral Event Centre in Lagos. The 25-year-old, born in Abia State, outshone 21 other contestants to claim the coveted crown, succeeding 2024 winner Chidimma Adetshina.

Basil, who works with a top South Korean conglomerate in a male-dominated field, wowed judges with her poise, articulate speech, and advocacy for maternal healthcare. Inspired by the personal loss of her younger brother due to inadequate maternal care, she vowed to champion better healthcare access for women in marginalized communities. “I want young girls to know they can achieve more and still celebrate their cultural identity,” Basil said, earning roaring applause.

The finale, hosted by Anthony Abraham and Victory Wilson, saw Miss Lagos, Damilola Bolarinde, take first runner-up, while Miss Bayelsa, Fortune Kurobo, and Miss Ogun, Irene Ikediashi, secured second and third runner-up spots. Miss Akwa Ibom, Idah Eno, was crowned Miss Supranational Nigeria 2025. With her win, Basil will represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe 2025 pageant in Thailand this November, carrying the nation’s pride and her heartfelt mission.
